Environmental Testing
Environmental testing and monitoring is required for water and wastewater treatment plants, chemical and industrial facilities, road and building construction projects, power plants, airports, military bases, logging and mining sites, agricultural areas, and landfills. A plethora of state, national and international regulatory organizations specify measurements and methods for environmental testing, including ISO, EPA, AOAC, AACC, ASTM and others.
Liquid, semi-solid and solid samples are taken and stored in chemically inert containers. Samples can be tested on location, using portable instruments and following protocols on a tablet or other mobile device. Data may be stored on the device or in the cloud, or may be transmitted to a central location. Samples may also be labeled and transferred for later testing in a lab.
Environmental tests monitor and analyze colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM), total volatile organic compounds (TVOC), ammonia, chloride, nitrite, total cyanide, phenol, total nitrogen, total phosphate and many others.
These tests are performed using liquid and/or gas chromatography systems, trace gas analyzers, wet chemistry analyzers, fluorometers (for measuring fluorescence excitation-emission matrices), hand-held Raman spectrometers, FTIR spectroscopy analyzers, spectrophotometers, thermogravimetric analyzers, and confocal microscopes.
Additional environmental testing equipment includes thermoregulators, block heaters, water baths, pH and conductivity meters, and dissolved oxygen meters.
