ADIPONECTIN

Adiponectin is a hormone produced by adipose tissue. It is a key regulator of insulin sensitivity and tissue inflammation, and low levels of adiponectin are associated with insulin resistance and Cardiovascular Disease (CVD).

Low adiponectin levels have also been shown to correlate with increased likelihood of a woman developing gestational diabetes in pregnancy. High levels of adiponectin are correlated with increased levels of HDL, and increased insulin sensitivity, leading to decreased CVD.
